Wow things are moving fast, even for the up and down world of MMA. Jon Fitch will not be leaving the UFC, after he and Zuffa co-owner Lorenzo Feritta had a talk. Here’s what Fitch had to say about the situation, via MMARated.com:

“Communication kind of broke down with Dana (White) so we talked with Lorenzo. (I) just got off the phone with him and we came to an agreement. We’re going to move ahead and I’ll be back in the UFC. We’re going to sign off on the video game and I’m back. It was never even about the agreement or the contract. It was the approach that we felt Dana was being a little bit hot-headed and was threatening us right off the bat. It didn’t seem like a professional way of doing things.”

While this seems to be a victory for both sides, one has to wonder if the media scrutiny of the affair had some affect on the change. While there were some who thought the move was acceptable by far most MMA fans seemed to side with Fitch. However, without any details as to the contract, it’s hard to know if AKA and company “won” or if they gave away the farm. Whether good or bad, this UFC Dana White episode may have hurt MMA becoming more mainstream “legitimate” as it seemed like White just lost his temper. Of course there’s plenty behind the scene’s action that we aren’t hearing about.

Fitch is once again on track to fight Akihiro Gono at UFC 94, which will feature a title matchup between welterweight title holder GSP and challenger (and UFC lightweight champion) BJ Penn.

Despite the strange situation it’s good that the premier organization kept Jon Fitch, who has proven himself to be a very high level competitor, and this move may validate the UFC’s claim that, in the end, business is good for both themselves and the fighters.
